Denis on Doncaster

Denis Smith reflects on the weekend’s game with Doncaster Rovers:

“It’s a game we should have won after hitting the woodwork on a couple of occasions but give their keeper credit. He possibly made the best save of his career when stopping Steve Roberts, along with other saves to deny both Craig Morgan and Mark Jones.

“It’ll take us time to get our rhythm back, but against a team which has won their last three matches and had a £1m player on the bench, we were the better team.

“Having Danny (Williams) back in the middle made a difference, and Ben Foster looks like what a keeper should be. He makes the right decisions at the right time, he comes for the right balls in the box and he’s got a good kick on him. He didn’t really have many saves to make but from what we have seen in training, he can do that as well.

“I saw him for one morning and immediately told John Rudge, I’ll take him now if you want! After what they had said about him, I can see why they rate him so highly.

“Juan will be back but Danny will be missing at Walsall. What we need to do is try and get a settled team. People are getting used to those around him – look at Mark Jones, he’s really settling into that role.

“Carlos has come back although it can’t be easy to play with that cast on his arm, but we are gradually starting to get a settled team.

“I thought Doncaster were a good side but we were better.”
