Stockport's miserable Boxing day record continued when Paul Barrett gave Wrexham a late 1-0 win at Edgeley Park.
The Hatters only had themselves to blame as they failed to convert a hatful of chances against the Red Dragons. Barrett sealed a win for the visitors with an opportunist strike in the 89th minute which silenced the Edgeley Pak faithful.
The visitors also had plenty of chances to take full points, but neither team could find the killer-instinct in front of goal they so desired, until Barrett popped up snatch the points.
For County a defeat did little to ease their relegation fears, while for Wrexham, sitting pretty in mid-table, three points from their trip to the North-West was not a bad day at the office.
Fraser McLachlan nearly put the home side in front after only two minutes with a left-footed strike which flew inches wide of the right-hand post.
But, in fairness, it was Wrexham who started the better of the two teams and the Dragons should have taken the lead eight minutes later when Chris Llewellyn ghosted into the box to latch onto a careless back header from Rob Clare.
Llewellyn, though, rushed and his left-footed effort was not even on target to test James Spencer, the Hatters teenage keeper.
Llewellyn had a chance to make amends in the 18th minute, again involved for Wrexham as they pushed for a breakthrough. However, the striker just required a touch to turn a Carlos Edwards' cross goalwards, but was unlucky when County defender Matt Heath got enough of a touch to deflect the ball for a corner.
The home side had their own chances to break the deadlock and a clever Andy Welsh pass to Simon Lynch, the on-loan Preston North End hitman, made sure Wrexham keeper Andy Dibble - a former Stockport employee - was tested with a powerful shot from the edge of the box.
But, try as they might, and with other good chances having fallen to Rickie Lambert, Lynch, again, and Aaron Wilbraham, Sammy McIlroy's men could not find the back of the net. Wilbraham, in particular, was especially unlucky to see his side-footed shot bounce to safety off the crossbar.
Hector Sam should have put Wrexham in front when he turned Clare early in the second-half, but his left-footed shot was agonisingly wide of the target.
County substitute Owen Morrison, the former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder, had a glorious chance to put Count ahead, but his delicious drive was well-saved by Dibble.
Andy Welsh also had a shot saved by Dibble at the near post, but whatever County tried, they just could not find a breakthrough. Sam was unlucky again when, in the 72nd minute he had the ball snatched from his feet by Spencer, but the finishing from both sides was distinctly poor.
However, Barrett silenced the home support crowd though with a killer strike at the death.
