Taxing times ahead!
Wrexham FC will still face their court case at the High Court in London following a failed bid by director Dave Bennett to prevent the case going ahead. The club now faces being wound up if the court's outcome is in favour of the Inland Revenue.
Mr Bennett says that owner Alex Hamilton is to blame for the situaton being what it is with the Inland Revenue as he failed to turn up to meetings with them earlier in the year.
Mr Hamilton is clearly not interested in the club deep down. Despite having ownership of the club's Racecourse Ground, the club's majority shareholder has made it known for several months that he wishes to develop the land the ground is on.
Subsequently, he has served the club with a notice to quit the ground in July this year, leaving the League One side homeless, as a new ground could never be built in that time and the Football League have already refused a groundshare with bitter rivals Chester, who are based in England.
Financially, Wrexham is in a mess as players were paid around half their wages at the end of October from gate receipts. This drastic action was taken following the move by the Wrexham branch of HSBC freezing the club's account in light of the winding-up petition.
Fans and remaining directors at the club are urging Mr Hamilton to accept an offer by Wrexham Supporters' Trust for his 78% stake in the club and walk away from the club.
Dave Bennett believes that the club can deal with the court hearing better if Mr Hamilton does not have an interest in the club any further. A decision is imminent from the Cheshire-based property developer.
