Barry does Wrexham signing U-turn.

Anthony Barry has done a U-turn on signing for Blue Square Premier Wrexham and joined lower league Fleetwood Town on a two-and-a-half year deal.The midfielder had passed a medical at the Racecourse after the 23-year-old was available on a free after being released by Chester City.

"He knows he has let me down," said Wrexham manager Dean Saunders.

"I could've been awkward and demanded a transfer fee or made him stay but I don't want anyone who isn't happy."

The Wrexham Supporters Association were ready to help finance the signing of the former Everton trainee on an 18 month contract but Barry has instead joined the Blue Square North side.

"I'm not so sure it's good career move for him football wise," said former Wales international striker Saunders .

"Anthony is a good player and I felt the type of player but I told him I had to sign Andy Mangan but I couldn't offer what he was earning at Chester.

"We done a deal and shook hands but he didn't realise he signed.

"We put his contract through but then he got a phone call from the Fleetwood manager who offered him a two-and-a-half year contract and offered him three-times the money we could offer him.

"We tried to go as far as he could but we have a wage structure. I am not here to bankrupt the club, I'm here to guide the club out of this league and do it sensibly."

Barry, who had joined Chester in the summer of 2008, trained with Wrexham at their Colliers Park HQ before moving to Fleetwood.
