Soon-to-be Wrexham Chairman Andy Smith says the plans he has for the club will see it "flourish" in the future.

The businessman from Surrey expects to buy controversial owner Alex Hamilton's 78% stake within 3 weeks and says he will sign an “exclusivity deal” on Wednesday.

Speaking on Radio Wales today Smith said, "The deal is agreed and I intend to put Wrexham back on its feet.”

"We'll meet the fans soon and look forward to having them on our side. The Racecourse will stay where it is and there's money to move forward."

Speaking after his team's 2-1 win at Hereford last night manager Denis Smith welcomed the takeover news.

Smith told his players the news last night before the game which raised a round of applause and set their minds at ease when they took to the field.

"It couldn't be a better day," Smith said.

Darren Ferguson, Wrexham captain, and son of Manchester Utd manager, Sir Alex, also welcomed the news.

"It's great for the club, now if we can turn things around and avoid relegation it could even turn into a good year.

"At the start of the season we felt that we could make the play-offs, but if we can just stay up it will feel like promotion."
